How Organic Makeup is Changing The Cosmetics Industry

Consumers are getting smarter and smarter in today’s shopping-savvy world. Rather than wanting eye-watering chemical perms and turning a blind eye to mascara being tested on rabbits, we’re more inclined to avoid chemicals in the things we put on our skin, in our bodies and into our fragile environment.

As such, all-natural organic makeup is becoming more and more popular. We are utilizing our spending power to purchase products that will nourish and sustain both our planet and our pores. Shoppers from makeup artists to everyday makeup wearers are putting their hard-earned cash into skin and hair products that are kind to both the skin and the earth.

Organic on the Rise

Over the next six years, earnings in the organic cosmetics industry are expected to nearly double, rising from nearly USD 15 billion to a whopping 28.7 billion by 2024, according to Energias Market Research. This rapidly increasing income power – and the motivation behind it – is proof of a huge change in the cosmetics industry towards organic and sustainable products.

These days, we want a different look. Rather than the heavy, brightly coloured makeup of the 1980s, we are more inclined towards natural looks, and even going makeup free (or at least aiming for that oh-so-subtle look). In addition, our attention to how we eat and living with a lighter footprint has increased the availability of products that are not only certified organic but also fit other, healthier lifestyles.

Foundations, eye-shadow, blushers, mascara and lipstick can be purchased that uses no animal products whatsoever and are therefore labeled vegan, while environmentally conscious brands use natural ingredients like beeswax. Cruelty-free products and those with Halal status can also be purchased.

Gentle & Effective Cosmetics

Crafted with pure ingredients and natural plant botanicals, many of these products actually feel better on the skin – especially sensitive skin. For those with more challenging conditions like extra dry or oily skin, they’re also perfect in that they work towards repairing imbalances and answering all types and kinds of complexion challenges. By meeting the needs of today’s demanding consumers, whether lifestyle requirements or the desire to live a more eco-friendly and environmentally conscious life, the creators and providers of organic makeup are radically altering the makeup industry.

Whatever impression you want to make, from striding up the red carpet on a glamorous evening to maintaining a more casual and fresh summertime appearance, organic makeup fits the bill and could eventually become the norm within the makeup industry. And who wouldn’t want that? Given a choice, wouldn’t most consumers opt for cruelty-free products that don’t have a huge impact on our fragile ecosystem?

As the big brand names become aware of this shift in consumer demand, they are introducing their own lines of products that meet the needs of conscientious consumers. While this is a good thing, as shoppers we must still be cautious that what’s advertised is what we’re actually getting and look for those products that will truthfully be healthier for our bodies and our earth. When we support these brands, we’ll all be more beautiful.
